Venetian Horse Ring

$225.00

Inspired by the four famous classical era horses mounted over the entrance to St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice, horses are associated with independence, freedom and power. These unique rings have a hinging mechanism that makes them very comfortable and fun to wear. Inspired by roman rings that had two sides and the seal that business people pressed into hot wax to 'seal a deal', which could be attached, for example, to the closure of an amphora of precious oil, or placed on a document as an authentic signature. Available in hand-antiqued sterling silver with a rich patina or 18k gold plated sterling silver. The medallions are cast in Italy using the ancient lost wax process. They are reproduced from an 18th century plaster casting created as a souvenir of a visit to Venice as part of what was called 'The grand tour'. Available in four accommodating sizes.
