‘Feminine Beauty’ Cameo Ring with Greek Love Poem Band

$225.00

‘Feminine beauty’ cameo ring with greek love poem band. Cast in Italy from an antique intaglio purchased in a roman street market. This tiny, detailed 19th-century plaster intaglio was crafted by students in Italian and French art academies and sold as a souvenir for cultural tourists. While Cameos were popular as far back as Ancient Egypt, the style of this cameo is reminiscent of the cameos worn by Queen Victoria, who loved to design, commission and gift jewelry and was very fond of cameos with female profiles. It represents feminine beauty.

The band is inscribed with a 2500 year old ancient greek poem by the female poet 'Nossis'. The inscription reads, “Nothing is sweeter than love, no treasure more precious, even honey I spit from my mouth.”

Available in sterling silver.
